The college year is well on its way and students are back in the swing of courses. Groups of students are filling campuses around the country, and students are moving back and forth from classes, tutorials, intramural activities, and everything else they can think of to pass the time.
Being connected is one of the things that makes college an amazing time for students. Smart devices have allowed these students to remain connected on levels that weren’t previously available. And while it’s a safe assumption that nearly all students will have some kind of mobile device, we need to put systems in place to maintain the connections. A very simple way to do that is by implementing charging stations.
Encourage Connection
College students are always on the move doing something. If they aren’t in class, they are typically involved in another hobby which takes them out of that space. Many students don’t even study in their rooms, choosing the library or common areas instead.
So with that in mind, campuses need to find ways to ensure students’ devices are able to stay charged as they move back and forth through classes and other daily activities. Implementing charging stations in common areas throughout the campus is a great way to ensure students’ devices stay charged. It also plays a big role in encouraging the connection students share through their smartphones and tablets.
Smart Devices Make a Difference
In case you doubted just how prevalent smartphone usage is amongst students, let’s look at some stats: 81% of students use their phone to help them study, while 62% say their device better prepares them for classes. Nearly half of students also say their smart devices save time.
What about general security? Students are on campus at all times of day and night. Having a phone charged to make use of the flashlight, or just having the knowledge of being able to call 911 if something happens are comforting thoughts. And even though they’ve left the nest, studies have shown that students speak to their parents about 13 times per week.
More Benefits of Charging Stations on College Campuses
- Carries a Certain Appeal: It’s hard to deny that there’s something kind of cool about having charging stations throughout your campus. It’s a small point students can brag about and gives students another reason to gather and socialize.
- Keeps You Connected with Friends and Family: We’ve already mentioned how often students speak to their parents every week. For first year students, staying connected to parents and family is even more crucial. And keeping their cell phones charged to make those calls or send those texts at all times is necessary part of maintaining their psyche.
- Students Don’t Have to Worry about Charging Multiple Devices: Technology has crept its way into the classrooms. And having a mobile device has become an integral part of how students learn and study. A charging station takes away some of the stress of having to worry about charging multiple devices in their dorm room.
- Increases Student Recruitment and Retention: Convincing students to attend your campus is a competitive job. Any advantage you can leverage is one you must take advantage of. Having technology like multi-port USB charging devices is a bonus a lot of students will notice and adds to the allure of your campus.
For all of these reasons, students need to stay connected. Part of staying connected is staying charged. Sounds simple, but the difference between having a charged device and not having one can change the experience of a student.
Ohming Technology offers multiple device charging stations that are perfect for college campuses. They are great because they are able to charge both legacy devices and the newest model iPhones or iPads. And with all the benefits we’ve discussed, it’s easy to see how important a charging station can be.
